Films To See

Nine - A musical based on Frederico Fellini’s 8 1/2. The cast alone is worth visiting this film. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Dame Judi Dench, Sophia Loren and Fergie (?). Watch the trailer here. Opens on Christmas.

The Road - Directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition) Based on Cormac McCarthy’s book of the same name. I read the book and was thoroughly depressed for a week. It’s pretty grim, and I’m glad that Hillcoat seems to have stuck with that tone and look. It looks exactly like how I had pictured it. The Proposition was a great slow burner and this looks great too. Watch the trailer here. I believe Nick Cave did the music for this one too.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox - Wes Anderson, Stop-Animation with fur and music I forgot I liked.
Broken Embraces

Pedro Almodovar directs Penelope Cruz in a film about a writer who loses the woman he loves. I don’t really understand what attracts me to Almodovar’s films. They are visually arresting and the stories are deliberately paced in such a fashion that makes me feel slightly on edge. Haunting you might say..
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

With Heath Ledger, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Tom Waits. Something this ridiculous looking has to be brilliant right?
Shutter Island

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Dicaprio again. A murder-mystery set on an island for the criminally insane. Sounds insane. Bam and bam.
These are some of the must-sees for me. Got any other suggestions?
